My Faith in America Restored (Partially)

Barack Obama became the president-elect yesterday and I could not be more pleased. After 8 years of the country getting flushed down the toilet, we are finally going to see change. My faith in America (for the most part) has been restored.

Now, there was something yesterday that quite frankly pissed me off. California's Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage, passed. Um.... first of all, last time I checked there was a separation off church and state. "Potecting the sanctity of marriage" is a religious quest people. Banning it is a state law. Hmmm.... see the problem here? To quote a dear friend of mine: "IF YOU ARE AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE, DON'T HAVE ONE!" If two people who happen to be the same sex, are in love and want to make that commitment to each other, they should be able to do so. People, it's none of your business and, honestly, how does it even affect you?

It's time to grow up you overly conservitive, religious, closed minded dicks. It's a new era. You may not realize it, but there are a lot of similarities between how you are treating the homosexual community and the segregation of race 50 years ago. Get off your religious pedestals. Get out of your ridiculously conservative boxes. All people are equal, whether they're gay, straight, rich, poor, black, white, male, female, religious, or atheist. Get over yourselves. Enough is enough.

But, at least the best man won the Presidential election.

Until next time readers.

So very true! GO OBAMA!!! A new hope has been restored... When I think of our America I don't feel doomed anymore! haha :D

On proposition 8... whether two individuals want to get married regardless of sex, it doesn't effect anyone else's lives. They should have the same right as a heterosexual couple. This is America, the place for change. Think of only a little while back when there were no interracial marriages, and look how we have progressed.

Hey Bakke!

I wanted to comment on your blog.... Living in California I'm surrounded by gays, I think, for the most part I can't tell them apart from another person...maybe I should have my gay-dar checked. At any rate, I'm in agreement with you and I personally voted no on Prop 8. They should be able to be as miserable as the rest of America!

It boggles my mind that Jesus taught love and compassion yet the very people that say they live by the book promote such hatred and bigotry. It so ironic that we can now, 35-40 years after segregation and oppression of our darker friends, elect one of them into the highest position of our government. Yet we can't allow same sex marriages...this too, I think, will pass in time.

Good blog post BTW!

Your rant on gay marriage reminds me of my bulletin a little while ago. However, yours was more eloquent. Mine was pure drunken rage.

Religious dickheads need to stop this bullshit. Maybe we should go back to feeding them to the lions! Ha ha!! Hooray for Obama, though. I was just as pleased.

Cheers, dude. Hope life is good!

And thank God for that. I think we all gained a little more faith in America after this!
If only Proposition 8 passed, then I'd feel much better about the whole thing. But all in due time, I suppose.
GO-BAMA!
